Pinwheel Mushroom

The exact identification of this mushroom is beyond my ability. The other Pinwheel in the same family is too close to call. My best guess is a toss up between Marasmius rotula and Marasmius capillaris.

  • Marasmius rotula is supposed to have a flat top when viewed from the side.

  • Marasmius capillaris is much like rotula but grows from oak leaves and not sticks and woody debris as does rotula.
The pinwheels I found appeared to be growing from 'sticks' and the tops looked flat.

EDIBLE: too small to bother with, with no mention if poisonous in any field guide I saw
