On a scale of 1 to 10 I'm pretty sure I only got a 5 in identification.
Found growing on an old log at Stone Valley, Colton, NY. - Aug. 16, 2008.
I'm almost certain about the ID based on looks. But I have serious doubts since this mushroom is reportly found at the base of Aspens and Birch trees growing from the ground. If only I knew at the time to check for greenish gills and garlicky odor I could have been a bit more positive about the ID. NOT EDIBLE: taste is unpleasant but apparently that's not what actually makes some people sick. |
